Trip to Costa Rica

Map of Costa Rica. Costa Rica constitutionally abolished its army permanently in 1949. It is the only Latin American country to have been a democracy since 1950 or earlier. Population is about 4.3 million with 80% white and 70% Catholics. The central mountain region has a temperate climate.

Since 1999, tourism and eco-tourism earn more foreign exchange than the combined exports of the country's three main cash crops: bananas, pineapples and coffee. Coffee production has played a key role in Costa Rica's history and economy, and by 2006, was the third cash crop export. For any transaction, everyone pays 13.1% tax + 10% tip or tax for food purchases! I found it quite expensive.

The currency is Colon and exchange rate to USD$1 is around 500 Colons.
